The article explains how to add a vertical line to a chart.

Details

To add a vertical line to a chart

1. Select the Vertical Line tool in one of the following ways:

• On the toolbar, click the Add Line arrow, and then click Add Vertical Line.
• On the Insert menu, point to Lines, and then click Add Vertical Line.
• Right-click in the time axis, and then click Add Vertical Line.
• Right-click in the chart, point to Chart Elements on the shortcut menu, and then click Add Vertical Line.
  * When a chart is opened within the FXCM Trading Station, you can also select the tool in the following way: On the Charts menu, point to Insert, point to Lines, and then click Add Vertical Line.
2. On the chart, click a spot where you want a vertical line to be drawn.
3. The Add Vertical Line dialog box appears.
   
   
4. On the Parameters tab, specify the line parameters of your choice:

• In the Name box, type a new name of your choicew.
  Note: To reset the default line name, click Reset.
• In the Date box, select or type a value of your choice. Note that you can enter the time value only by typing it, whereas the date value can be both typed or selected from the calendar.
• In the appropriate Style boxes, click the color, style, and width of your choice.
• To show the line in background, select the Show in background check box. Otherwise, clear the check box.
  Notes:

• To apply by default the selected properties (except for Name) to all vertical lines to be added in the future, click Set as Default.
• To restore the factory settings, click Reset.
5. To specify the line's tag parameters, click the Tag tab. The dialog box opens on the Tag tab.

• To show a tag indicating the line's date and time on the time axis, select the Show tag on time axis check box. Otherwise, clear the check box.
• In the Text Color box, select the color of the tag's text from the color palette. Note that the command is available only when the Select text color automatically check box is not selected.
• To select the color of the tag's text automatically, select the Select text color automatically check box. Otherwise, clear the check box.
  
  Notes:

• To apply by default the selected properties to all vertical lines to be added in the future, click Set as Default.
• To restore the factory settings, click Reset.
6. Click OK.

Notes:

• You can use the Vertical Line tool until its time period specified by the Tool timeout option expires. To change the time period, see the Chart Element Options] article.
• To exit the Vertical Line tool, do the same as for selecting the tool or one of the following:

• Right-click in the chart.
• Press ESC.
