Measure Distances
Brief
The article explains how distances can be measured in pips or periods.
Details
On a chart, you can measure a distance between two points in pips or periods using the
Ruler tool.
To measure a distance between two points
- Select the Ruler tool in one of the following ways:
- On the toolbar, click Ruler.
- On the Chart menu, click Ruler.
* When a chart is opened within the FXCM Trading Station, you can also select the Ruler tool in the following
way:
On the Charts menu, point to Chart, and then click Ruler.
- Click one point on the chart and drag the pointer to another point.
The ruler line with a label appears. The label shows the price you are pointing to,
the number of periods between the two points, and the difference in pips between the two
points. As you release the mouse button, the ruler line and label disappear.
Notes:

period, see the Chart Element Options] article.
- To disable the Ruler tool, do the same actions as for selecting the tool or one of the
following:
- Right-click in the chart.
- Press ESC.
You can change the Ruler tool in some other ways as well. For more information, see Chart Element Options
article.
